- Obituary for Cherryl (Bundy) Abbott
Cherryl Ann Bundy Abbott, 70, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022 surrounded by her family at her home in Mesquite, NV. She was born June 16, 1952 in St. George, Ut to Ben and Beatrice Nelson Bundy. She married Perry E. Abbott on June 27, 1970 in the St. George, UT temple. Cherryl was raised on the Arizona Strip through faith, hard work and a close family bond. She started her education in the one room schoolhouse at Mount Trumbull, AZ; after which she attended and graduated in 1970 from Dixie High School in St. George, UT. Cherryl and Perry raised their family in Mesquite, NV. She worked in retail management for most of her life where she influenced numerous people in the community and was able to share her unique way of making everyone feel loved and special. She had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and served in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Cherryl loved to spend time with her family on the ranch where she grew up. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters and friends on various little adventures. She loved to watch football, especially the 49ers. Above all, her most favorite thing in the world was just being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Perry E. Abbott in Mesquite, NV. Her children Brandon (Jennifer) Abbott, Chad (Tabitha) Abbott, Sirena Tafili, and Kelsi Abbott in Mesquite, NV. As well as 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Her siblings Clayon ( Margo) Bundy in Portland, Oregon; Lowell (Penny) Bundy in Wheatland, CA;Wendel (Kayleen) Bundy in Cedar City, UT; Les (Chris) Bundy in St. George, UT; Newman (Yvonne) Bundy in Taylorsville, UT; Veda (Dave) Hatch in Springville, UT and Arlene (Dennis) May in Fountain Green, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents James “Ben” and Beatrice Nelson Bundy, her brothers James Lavoy Bundy and Kenneth Donl Bundy, her sister Gayle Hansen, her sons Nathan Trent Abbott and Dustin Lyman Abbott, and grandson Jeremy Robert Irvin. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Mesquite Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 100 North Arrowhead Lane at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Mesquite Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday prior to the funeral service 9:30-10:30 a.m. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on their guestbook page at starmortmesquite.com.

- Elder Samuel Atkinson
Elder Samuel Spencer Atkinson has been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints. He will serve in the Charleston West Virginia, English speaking, for 24 months. Samuel will report to the Missionary Training Center Sept 5, 2022. Scott and Danielle Atkinson of the Mesquite 1st Ward are his parents. Elder Samuel will speak August 28th at 1:30 pm in the Stake Center, located 100 N. Arrowhead. Elder Atkinson Testimony I believe that our church is the true church and that those who have and are leading it are appointed by God our Heavenly Father. I also believe that through Christ we can repent and be clean again. I believe that we can receive personal revelation related to our lives and our callings. I believe that we can communicate to our Heavenly Father through prayer and that he will answer us in his way. I believe in the blessings of the temple and the covenants we make there. I believe that it is important to do missionary work even if not currently called and we will receive the blessings in full force. I believe in the power and truth of the Book of Mormon and wish to share it with as much of the world as I can. Amen
- Elder Tauaimalo Fiso Returns
Elder Tauaimalo Fiso returns after serving his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to the Samoa Apia Mission but served in the North Dakota Bismarck Mission. Gaosi and Jennifer Fiso of the Mesquite 5th Ward are the parents of Taua. Elder Taua Fiso returns home August 18th and will be reporting his mission on Sunday, August 21st, Mesquite 5th Ward at 12 pm. in the Stake Center, located 100 N. Arrowhead in Mesquite. Welcome Home Elder! Elder Fiso Testimony I know that God is our Loving Heavenly Father and we are His children. He has a plan for each and every one of us, and has provided a way for us to return and live in His presence. He gave us His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for the sins of all mankind. He overcame both sin and death, and through Him, we can be saved. I know Jesus Christ lives, and that He loves all of us so much. I know as we keep Him at the center of our lives, we will always experience pure joy. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Jesus Christ’s church on the earth today. I know that Joseph Smith is a true prophet, and he was called of God to help restore the fullness of the gospel on the earth. I know the Book of Mormon is true. It is the word of God. The message it contains is so beautiful!! I know that it is another testament of Jesus Christ, and anyone that reads it will draw nearer to Him and our Heavenly Father. I know that Russell M. Nelson is a prophet called of God. I know he leads and guides us through these last days. I know that missionary work is the greatest work on earth! Nothing else can compare! The gathering of Israel is the most important movement on the earth today. I love the gospel, and I love Jesus Christ. And I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
- Elder Braden Bingham Returns
Elder Braden Bingham returns after serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to the Liberia, Monrovia mission English speaking, was temporarily reassigned to the New Jersey, Morristown mission. He served in New Jersey for 2 months, then Liberia reopened and Braden was able to transfer to his originally assigned mission. He served in Liberia for 22 months. Elder Bingham will return home on Aug 17 2022 at 10:58 pm NV time. Brian and Kris Bingham of the Bunkerville 2nd Ward are the parents of Braden. - Elder Jaeger Lee
Elder Jaeger Lee has been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jaeger will serve in the Japan Tokyo South Mission speaking Japanese. He starts his Home Missionary Training, August 15th for 2 1/2 weeks, then the Provo Missionary Training Center until he flies to Tokyo, October 25th. Jaeger's parents are Charles and Dawn Lee of the Scenic Ward. Elder Jaeger Lee will speak on August 14th , 12:00 in the Littlefield Chapel located on 3260 E. Old HWY 91. Elder Jaeger Lee's Testimony: I'd like to bear my testimony that I know this gospel is true, and that as long as we continue to follow and keep the commandments that we will be blessed for doing so. - Alonzo Hazelton Handy III Obituary
Alonzo Hazelton Handy III of Mesquite, NV passed away on August 3, 2022, just over a month shy of his 84th birthday. He was at home surrounded by family when he died. “Lonny,” as he was called growing up, was born in Preston, ID to Alonzo and Dorothy. He married Carolyn on a snowy Thanksgiving Day in 1961, nearly 62 years ago. “Al,” as he was later known, was an avid baseball fan (a hobby he passed on to his son), coin collector, reader, bird watcher (a hobby he passed on to his daughter) and enjoyed gardening. After graduating with a B.S. in Chemistry from Utah State University, Al and Carolyn moved to Salt Lake City where Al started working for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) as a hydrologist and water quality specialist. He stayed with the USGS until he retired in 1993. The job moved the family every 3-4 years eastward to Georgia, Virginia, Michigan, Saudi Arabia, and Colorado. After retirement, Al and Carolyn moved to Utah to care for their parents. Eight years later they settled in Mesquite. Al was an intelligent and quiet man with a broad sense of humor and easy laugh, and a dutiful husband, father, and pet owner. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; son Allen (Amber), daughter Kristina (Melissa); brother Roger (Annette); Aunt Carol; granddaughters Courtney, Amy, Indiana, Sophia, Natasha, Kiara; and great grandchildren Ira, Jasper, and Scarlett; and his cat Lily. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a member of the 8th Retirement Branch. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 6 to 8 pm at Virgin Valley Mortuary (320 East Old Mill Road | Mesquite, NV 89027 | Tel: 1-702-346-6060 and again on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at The LDS Stake Center (100 N Arrowhead Ln, Mesquite, NV 89027) from 10:00am - 10:45am with the funeral service starting at 11:00am in the Chapel. Directly after the funeral the burial will take place at the Old Mesquite City Cemetery.

Elder Aden Woods returns home August 10th after serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in the Oregon Eugene Mission. All incoming freshman through seniors and their parents are invited to the Seminary Kickoff. It will be held Sunday, July 31st at 6 pm in the Stake Center. Sunday dress please and refreshments will be served.
- Elder Ryan Bruehl
Elder Ryan Bruehl will serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission. He will start Missionary Training on August 1st. Angie and Ryan Bundy are his "Missionary" parents. Elder Ryan Bruehl will speaking this Sunday, July 31st at 9 am in the Whipple Chapel, located 121 Whipple Way. Elder Bruehl Testimony: Jesus Christ is our savior and redeemer. He came down to Earth and provided us a way to return unto our Heavenly Father. Not only did He take upon himself all of our sins and suffer on the cross that he might succor us all but he was also a guide to us. He has left us many lessons and stories, found in the New Testament, that he might guide us back to our Heavenly Father. That we might not be lost and confused as the adversary, who is very real, seeks to confuse, demoralize, mock, and shame us… Brothers and sisters I bear testimony to you that God is real, that we have a savior, that Joseph Smith was a prophet of the almighty God, and that now is the time to repent! Dwell no longer with the adversary but shake off the chains of damnation and Harken unto thy God… And remember, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (Jesus Christ, John 16:33)

Elder Riley Averett has been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will serve 24 months in the Salem Oregon Mission. Virgin Ave. Elder Averett Testimony I know this church is true, I know the atonement is the only way to get back to God and that brings me joy every day knowing that all my sins can be forgiven and I will be washed clean. I know that as I read the scriptures I have the strength to resist temptations of the devil and to improve each day. I know that as I strive to serve the Lord on a mission and give it my all I will bless others and bring others to the same overwhelming joy of the gospel.
