Thank you Russ and Elders Garland,Most,Lewis and Ricks (missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) for taking time to paint the stagecoach in the Museum's backyard. We appreciate your service and help. Thank you again Sharon and Rick branch of the Golden West for thinking of us as a new home for the stage coach originally built by John Hall of Bunkerville on an old logging wagon. It's been over a year since Sam Cochran arranged to have it transported to the museum with the help of Ace Hardware . Sam has put braces on the wheels to support the wagon and over the last year Russ Westwood has restored the wheels and today it was painted. • Mesquite Stake Devotional

For the first time ever Mesquite Nevada Stake joined together virtually for a Sunday evening devotional on September 20th. A link was sent to all members of the stake so that they could have access via the internet to this special gathering because of the restrictions on meetings during the Covid 19 shutdown. Special musical numbers were provided throughout the meeting bringing a sacred, worshipful spirit. The Alex and Heather Blazzard family sang “There is Peace in Christ“. Halie Spilker sang “The Miracle”. Tishelle Tew sang “I Have Not Seen, Yet I Believe “. Brian Wursten sang “Savior,Redeemer of my Soul”. Deborah Baker sang “My Shepard Shall Supply My Needs”. Jill Laub and Kristie Daley presented a violin duet of “How Great Thou Art”. Emily Hill presented a piano interpretation of “Abide With Me”. The final number was Shaye Whipple singing “It Is Well With Me”. The speakers during the devotional were the members of the stake presidency. Brother Lauren Abbott asked what we would do if the condition of the world was the “new normal”? He assured us that it would be alright if we kept listening to our prophet and taking the time to “hear” our Savior. Brother Danny Allen told us things are not so bad. He told of what he feels was the most frightening time in his life. His wife was having a critical surgery which could have gone “either way”. He looks back at that close brush with the possibility of losing her and says “ That was bad. That was fear.“ Put things in prospective. Heavenly Father is in charge. There is so much hope. Don’t be frightened. Have faith. Things are going to work out. President David Anderson reminded us “We are so blessed!“ Our lives are good. Stay calm, positive and hopeful. Take this opportunity to renew our belief in the Savior and be valiant in that faith! He asked that we stay mindful of others and be kind to everyone. Smile and thank those that serve us. Stand fast. President Anderson also stated how pleased and happy he was with this effort to gather virtually. “I’m excited! I can think of many ideas for meetings like this!” Then he promised “We’re going to have more!”

  • Sister Talia Hansen is Home

Idaho, Pocatello mission The Idaho, Pocatello mission was not affected very badly by COVID. We definitely had it a lot better than most missions. We were in quarantine for about 2 months and then we were allowed to go out and do service. About a month after that we were allowed to go back into peoples homes! So we were basically back to normal! But while in quarantine we set up zoom lessons and did lots of teaching online as well as Facebook. We made lots of videos and posts for Facebook :). We were even still allowed to hold baptismal services while we were in quarantine so it really did not stop the work! I know that the Lord cares about all of us on this Earth, so much that He was willing to suffer and die for us! I know that He wouldn’t want the missionary work and the teaching of His gospel to stop! I know that the gospel is the truth and that so much light, joy, and happiness comes from it. It’s been a blessing for me to be able to see that light change peoples lives. I know that Jesus Christ is our savior and that we really can do all things through Him because He loves us! Sister Talia Hansen

  • Sister Kari Wakefield Returns from Her Mission

One of the greatest things I witnessed and learned more about on my mission was about Heavenly Father’s love for each of His individual children. He truly sent His perfect Son Jesus Christ to live and die and live again for us. We are loved beyond what we can even imagine! I was so blessed to have been able to serve the Lord as a full time missionary. I saw miracles and tender mercies of the Lord. He truly is in the details of our everyday lives! Thank you all for your love and support! God bless.

  • From President Anderson, a short message and a few invitations

Last October in General Conference, Elder D. Todd Christofferson shared the following: “Even when we are found faithfully keeping the commandments, there are trials and tragedies that could interrupt our joy. But as we strive to overcome these challenges with the Savior’s help, it preserves both the joy we feel now and the joy we anticipate. Christ reassured His disciples, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” It is in turning to Him, obeying Him, binding ourselves to Him that trial and sorrow are turned to joy”. As the Savior was preparing for His last day in mortality, He gathered His disciples in an upper room to share with them a sacrament and some PEACE in a very scary world. As He spoke to them of the things that were coming, it became clear to them that this sermon was not a proverb – it was real. From the Gospel of St. John 16 we read: 29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. 30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. 31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? 32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. 33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. I have two invitations for the members of the Mesquite Nevada Stake: 1. Ask yourself these questions: If the challenges and trials that I’m experiencing now were to be the “new normal”, how would I find joy in the journey? And, how would I seek for ways to overcome these challenges with the Savior’s help, so I can preserve both the joy I feel now and the joy I anticipate, because of the Atonement of the Savior? 2. We invite you to virtually attend (and share with your friends of faith) a stake music and spoken word devotional this Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. Simply click on the following link: http://mywebcast.churchofjesuschrist.org/mesquitenevadastake You will notice that when you click on the link, that there are many ward worship services that can also be viewed on Sunday. We have been authorized by the First Presidency and the Area Presidency to return to weekly worship. We have also been approved to broadcast a worship service for each ward and branch at their normal Sunday meeting time. Because we are still limited to 50 to be physically in attendance, your bishop may ask some to virtually attend at each worship service. We are still authorized to have the sacrament at our homes if we are not attending in person. These can be times of joy and wonder. The world would have you believe that these are days of gloom and despair; they are not. In the words of the Savior “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. I testify that the Savior did overcome the world. Hope you are able to join us electronically on Sunday
