Jerry Lee Reese, age 69, of Mesquite, Nevada, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, in Provo, Utah, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was born on February 18, 1957, in St. George, Utah, to Kenley Reese and Darlene Reese. From a young age, Jerry was adventurous, curious, and full of life. He had the heart of an explorer and the soul of a free spirit — independent, full of stories, and happiest when there was open country ahead of him. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. His time in the military was an important chapter in his life, and the friendships he formed there remained meaningful to him for the rest of his life. Jerry stayed in touch with many of his Army buddies until his passing, a reflection of his loyalty, his character, and the lasting bonds he carried with him. Jerry spent much of his life in the construction industry, including as a construction superintendent. He worked in Mesquite for many years and was directly involved in many of the developments that shaped the community over the last several decades. His work is part of the landscape of Mesquite, and his fingerprints are on places that will stand for years to come. Jerry knew how to build, how to fix, how to lead, and how to get things done right. Away from work, Jerry found joy in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman who also loved hunting, camping, traveling, geology, mining, and prospecting. He had a deep appreciation for rocks, land, history, and the hidden things waiting to be found. He loved the desert, the mountains, the quiet, the view, and the feeling of being outside where life felt open and real. One of his favorite places was Lime Kiln, especially looking down over Mesquite at night. Jerry took his children on many adventures over the years, giving them memories of road trips, fishing, exploring, and time spent outside together. As a father, he was stern, caring, and loving. He taught his children the value of hard work, responsibility, perseverance, and standing on their own two feet. He wanted them to be strong, capable, and prepared for life. Family remained important to Jerry throughout his life. He shared his children with Eva Reber, and over the years he remained connected through family gatherings, vacations, and fishing trips. Jerry also maintained a friendship with Eva’s husband, Dallas, a reflection of his loyalty, his love for his children, and his ability to keep meaningful relationships alive. He also remained friendly with his former wife, Angela Brooks-Reese, and her husband. Those who knew Jerry will remember a man who was hardworking, knowledgeable, funny, outgoing, loyal, and caring. He loved to talk, visit, laugh, and tell stories. He could be tough, but he had a big heart. He could be stubborn, but he was deeply loyal. He could tell a story like only Jerry could, and those stories will continue to be told by the people who loved him. Jerry also loved classic rock and attended many concerts throughout his life, including seeing his favorite band, ZZ Top. Even near the end, he was looking forward to his next fishing trip when he was healthy enough to go — a fitting reflection of a man who never stopped looking ahead to the next good day, the next stretch of water, and the next place worth seeing. Jerry’s family and friends will miss him more than words can fully express. It was a privilege to know him, and those who loved him were blessed to have him in their lives. He was an incredible father, son, brother, grandfather, veteran, friend, storyteller, builder, outdoorsman, and adventurer. He lived with grit, humor, curiosity, loyalty, and heart. Jerry is survived by his children, son Dusty Reese and his wife, Lisa; daughter Lacey Reese; and son Austin Reese and his wife, Tatiana; his seven beloved grandchildren, Shaun Reese, Emily Reese, Caiden Reese, Ryan Reese, Carter Reese, Stone Reese, and River Reese; his mother, Darlene Reese; his sister, Jennifer Ballard; and his brother, Kolin Reese and his wife, Charlotte. He is also lovingly remembered by Eva Reber, the mother of his children, and by his former wife, Angela Brooks-Reese. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenley Reese; his brother, Virden Kenley Reese; his sisters, Jolene Reese and Sonja Reese; and his brother-in-law, Scott Ballard. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Mount Carmel, Utah. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Condolences may be extended online at www.bergmortuary.com.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Helen Bunnell and family and the Intermountain Hospice staff for their kindness, compassion, and care during Jerry’s final days.
