Brother and Sister Hamner have accepted and will serve a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have been called to Buenas Aires, Argentina Norte. They will speak on July 19th in the Spanish Branch at 11:00am at the Stake Center on Arrowhead.

The Anthem Ward gathered to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the our becoming the Land of the Free. Thanks to all those who have made freedom possible in this great land, and thanks to all who made this celebration possible today. May we ever worship the God of this land and thus maintain that which we have been given.

Mesquite NV West Stake Trek Our Trek Adventure begins this Wednesday! We are so excited to spend four days on a beautiful mountain learning about our pioneer heritage and the struggles & storms, and trials & triumphs they went through! All Youth, and Ma & Pa’s, and Ma Cart Sisters need to be to the Stake Center at 6:30 am. If you are part of a committee, please be there by 6:00 am. Please bring a lite snack to munch on as we won’t be eating lunch until around 1 pm, and there will be no stopping at gas stations on the way up. Make sure you don’t forget anything and remember it does get cooler when the sun goes down. Directions: take SR 14 in Cedar City, drive a little less than 5 miles, turn right on Kolob Reservoir and Righthand Canyon Road. There will be a sign for Trek there also. Follow for approximately 15 minutes. You will see another Trek sign at the end of the asphalt road, stay right for about another mile. Turn in on the right-hand side and drive to the corral area. This will also be where you go to welcome the Trekkers at the end of their journey. For all and everyone going up on Saturday please arrive by 11:00 am so that you can be where you need to be before we come pulling in. (Reminding Parents to be there to pick up their youth at 11 a.m. Nevada time. You’ll need to leave by 8:50-9AM the latest.) There will be a lunch provided for everyone after the Trekkers arrive. Sister Michelle Andrus has been called to serve for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her mission is the Germany, Berlin Mission, speaking the German language. Sister Andrus started her home MTC on June 24, 2026, and will report to the Provo Utah Missionary Training Center on July 8th. Sister Michelle Andrus will be speaking this Sunday, June 28th at 10:30 am in the Bunkerville Chapel. The chapel is located at 355 West Virgin St. Jayson and Laurie Andrus of the Willows Ward, West Stake are Michelle's parents.

Roxie Ann Bearden passed away peacefully at her home on June 18, 2026 at the age of 85. On January 16, 1941, Orange and Angie Barnum welcomed their 8th of 9 children into the world. Roxie Ann Barnum was born in St. George, Utah. She grew up in Mesquite, Nevada attending Virgin Valley Elementary, Jr. high and High School. Roxie was only 2 years old when her Father Orange, tragically passed away in a hunting accident. This situation allowed Roxie to be raised and influenced by the tight knit family structure of Angie and her siblings. Roxie’s older siblings also had a great influence in her upbringing as well. These relationships would be the foundation of who Roxie became. This upbringing instilled Roxie with an unwavering faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and the importance of family values. She truly loved the Gospel and her Family. Roxie attended Utah State University, where she received her degree in Elementary Education. Teaching was her passion and calling in life. She spent over 30 years teaching school in the Clark County Nevada School District. The majority of this was spent at Virgin Valley Elementary, where she had a positive influence on decades of students in the Valley. Roxie began her teaching career in North Las Vegas, Nevada. It was at this time when she met her forever companion, Robert Earl Bearden. They were married and sealed in the St. George Temple on December 19, 1964. Bob and Roxie, as they became known as, adopted and raised 3 children, Joel Ray, Taina LaRee, and Michael Lynn. They moved home to Mesquite, Nevada in 1971 where they would ultimately spend the rest of their lives, raising their family and being next to their large extended family. Roxie enjoyed many different types of Art in her life. She loved Oil Painting landscapes of the Valley that she loved so much. Her and Bob also loved Blue Grass music and would often go to Music Festivals. They enjoyed traveling and spent a lot of time seeing different parts of the country. They would often share these trips with many nieces and nephews over the years. Roxie was preceded in death by her parents, an older sister Ella, her Husband, Robert, her daughter, Taina and granddaughter Monica Rose. She survived by her two sons, Joel Ray (Kimberly) and Michael Lynn. Also surviving are her 5 grandchildren, Corbin, Shay Lee (David), John Michael, Bailey and Robert (Carli) and 2 great grandchildren, Liam and Jack. Roxie was loved by so many; she lived her life the way she always dreamed of, surrounded by her Family, Friends and Faith. She will be dearly missed by all of us, but we know she is now reunited with her life’s Love and Eternal Companion, Bob. Funeral Services to be held at the Mesquite Stake Center located at 100 N. Arrowhead Lane on June 29th at 9:00am – 10:30am for the viewing and the Funeral Service to begin at 11:00am. The Graveside will follow immediately after services.

Elder Drake Wakefield served his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Indonesia, Jakarta Mission. He will return home on June 25th. Elder Chase Abbott will serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will be serving in the Philippines Lingayen Mission, speaking Tagalog. Elder Parker Jensen will serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder Jensen will serve in the Denver, Colorado North Mission, Spanish. His Home MTC will start on July 22, 2026, then he'll attend the Provo, Utah Missionary Training Center on August 5th. Parker will arrive in Denver on September 1st. Elder Dagen Memmott will serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He'll serve in the Tonga Nuk'alofa Mission. July 17, 2026, will be his report date to the New Zealand Missionary Training Center. Elder Dagen Memmott will speak on July 12, 9 am in the Whipple Chapel. Come to the Mountain of the Lord Youth 14-18, there is still time to sign up to be with friends on Trek in July 8-11 on Cedar Mountain in beautiful scenery. A fireside program was held on Sunday evening. Pres. Jared Hollinghead invited the youth to “Come to know Jesus Christ, He is calling out to you! He wants you to feel a personal relationship with Him. Come have your own sacred grove experience.” Brogan & Shantelle Felshaw, Ram Rods, spoke about their experiences on the last trek and told of the bonds they and their family had made on trek. “It will change your life; you will make different friends and realize your goals while having fun too.”. Logan & Heather Abbott are also ram rods, and he jokingly said, “I like wilderness survival and I am a rugged indoors man!” He invited the youth to come and gain more strength in the gospel and more faith in living their lives. He added you can feel from the other side of Heaven when you come and join with Trek. Adran Klug, said, “Doing hard things will bring about happiness and give you more confidence in yourself that you can do hard things because of the spirit that will be there on Trek.” The Ma’s and Pa’s formed a choir to sing, “Walk with Me” at the start of the program. Sr. Katelee Dalton sang “Come to the Mountain of the Lord” with the words inviting everyone to come with “banner, shield and sword and the climb the mountain to feel the power of the truth restored, to find the promises fulfilled.” The youth will meet Wednesday morning, July 8, dressed in their pioneer clothing at the stake center and travel to the Red Cliffs Temple for baptisms. Tara Faught reminded the youth of the intense desire of the early pioneers to go to the Nauvoo Temple before their trek west. “This will remind our youth of the experiences of our pioneer ancestors and their desire to have the power of the temple in their lives as they proceeded on their hard journey.” Elwood & Tara Faught, Trail bosses for trek, assured all the youth and parents they will be well fed and taken care of! Marie Jane Hughes (Jane) passed away on Saturday, 23 May 2026 at the age of 85 in the Highland Mannor Nursing Home, Mesquite Nevada. She was born on Wednesday 15 January 1941 to Elmer Hardy and Leona Brooks Hardy at the Mount General Hospital, Hawthorn Nevada. She is the sister to Caroline, James, Juaneta, Roger (all deceased). Jane enjoyed working on the family farm and growing up in the LaVerkin and Hurricane area and moved to Mesquite shortly after graduating from Hurricane High School where she met and married the love of her life. Jane and Warren were sealed in the St. George Utah Temple on 12 December 1959. They spent 65 years together raising their family until Warren’s passing two years ago. Jane was the type of person everyone liked. She was down to earth, exciting and adventurous, outgoing, and was quite comfortable both in and outdoors. She was a loyal and strong hard worker and liked meeting new people and making life-long friends. Jane has always been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was able to serve in numerous callings while living in Mesquite, Carlin, Elko, Winnemucca, McDermitt, Tonopah, Las Vegas, Lovelock and in Cedar City, where she served on a couple’s mission. She was surpassed in death by her husband Warren and is survived by her five children: Robert & Tonya (Roy UT); DeLois & Lyle (deceased) Judd (Cedar City UT); Quint & KayDawn (Lovelock NV); Ranata J. Hughes (Pheonix AZ); Leona B. Hughes & Mark-Peel (deceased) (Pelham AL); 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father (Elmer), mother (Leona), brother’s (James, Roger) and sister’s (Caroline, Juaneta). Funeral services will be held on Saturday 30 May 2026 at 10:30 AM Pacific (Mesquite time) at the Whipple Chapel, 121 Elwin Whipple Way, Mesquite NV. 89024. The viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 AM. Interment will be next to her companion at the Mesquite City Cemetery (Old City Cemetery/Hillside Drive Cemetery) 301 Hillside Drive, Mesquite, Nevada 89027, under the direction of Southern Nevada Mortuary.
