54f5085d-4921-4003-8bfb-08f387cf5edc Elder Stetson Ludvigson Back to Missionary Letters What a memorable week we had this week! So we started the week off with a split to Manado, which is about a 3 hour flight from Jakarta. My companion used to serve there, so he knows all the members, and a member family said that they would takes us to dinner when we land, we land about 5:00 and head to dinner with the family. They take us to this super cool reasturant where the tables are on little docks in the middle of a lake, and in order to get to the table you have to walk across this little wooden bridge. This family has 2 little kids about 7 and 8, so we sit down and eat and had some amazing fish, after that we were sitting talking while the kids were playing. One of the kids thought it qould be a good idea to sprint full speed across the little bridge, and to no suprise "splash" he falls in the pond. Luckily it was shallow and he was able to just stand up and walk out and laugh about it. It was pretty hilarious and we all got a good laugh out of it. The split to Manado was amazing, we went to a village up in the mountains where some members live, we were able to visit 4 different member family in the village which consisted of a lot of hiking through the mountain, it was super pretty, and an amazing experience! Also at one of the members homes we had some smoked fish, and here they smoke their fish with coconut shells which makes it super good! This week we also had some amazing lessons, we had another lesson with Sis Rose we were able to teach the restoratuon and the spirit was super strong, after that she gave us a tour of the school she owns, and it was super cool! This week we also had our english conversation class which is actually super fun, the people here love trying to learn english so its pretty easy to get people to come! This p-day we had quite the adventure, so first we were planning on going to a zoo but we get there and find out it was closed on Mondays, which sucks, but we decided to go to this park place instead. We had no clue what it was really, but we pay and get in and are trying to figure out what to do and we see they had like a reptile museum so we decide to go there and check it out. At first we only though it was a little building with no live animals, after we walked around the building and came out we were getting ready to leave a little disapointed but then Elder Mocodompis spotted something, around the side was some glass boxs with some lizards and stuff. And as we continued around the side it kept getting better and better, we saw komodo dragons some massive alligators some huge snakes. So we were then satisfied and ready to leave, and at this time the park was about to close, and there was like no one their, it felt like a ghost town. But as we were walking out one of the workers waved us into this glass room. And here we got to hold a baby alligator and some giant snakes. It was pretty sketchy but also super fun! And thats all folks, love yall keep increasing your faith everyday! 1% better! Sampai Jumpa Previous Letter Next Letter

  • Sister Alley Shaner

dd34c7c8-9ebf-4ae8-842b-f1edc1c73e4f Sister Alley Shaner Back to Missionary Letters I'm Alive!! Hello everyone! I’m so sorry it took me so long to send out another email. Turns out adjusting to being home is a lot harder than I expected it to be! My experiences as a Service Missionary have been great though and I promise to send consistent emails once again! First, I want to share with everyone where I’ve been serving! Getting a schedule organized for me was really iffy at first and I was driving up to St. George almost every day because there are no other service missionaries in Mesquite and so nothing was really set up down here. The time difference also sucked because if I had an assignment at 8 Utah Time then that’s actually 7 my time, which means I need to leave at 6. I’m not a morning person lol. But, we’ve slowly been figuring things out and now most of my assignments are down in Mesquite! We’re still figuring out the kinks but let me just go over my schedule quickly! Monday I have a morning devotional in St. George with my district and then afterwards I stay at the institute to work on a really neat service project. We’re basically making homemade beds out of grocery bags and then we ship them off to refugees and countries who need it, like Ukraine! Then I come home and I help at the food bank we have here in Mesquite. Tuesday we’re still kind of figuring out, but I think I’ll be helping with the FamilySearch Center or the animal shelter which I am really excited about. Wednesdays are my temple days! I’m so excited to work in the St. George temple, it is absolutely gorgeous! I’ve missed it a lot! Thursdays are really exciting because I’m helping my old 4th grade teacher with her class! I’ve only done it once so far, but I loved it and the kids are amazing! Almost has me really considering becoming a teacher! Finally, Fridays I’m helping at the Salvation Army in Mesquite! Saturdays I don’t really have anything scheduled and Sundays are really a family day, which is nice! It’s been over a month now but I’m just barely starting to adjust. It’s been a little difficult keeping the habits I formed on my mission, which has been really frustrating for me but it’s to be expected. I’ll start shaping back up soon enough lol! I want to share with everyone a thought I’ve been having the past week. Last Saturday I had the privilege to hear from Bradley Wilcox who is in the Young Men General presidency! It was an amazing conversation and he said something that really made me think, that I’d like to share. Being on the covenant path can be really difficult, I think the most difficult part for me is feeling like I’m not making any progress because I keep messing up. I think it can sometimes take really long to take a step forward and we all focus on how fast we mess up. Think of it this way, each of us is walking our own path. It takes everyone a week to take one step forward, it’s a hard long journey but after 7 weeks we’re 7 steps ahead of where we were. Then all of a sudden something disrupts our journey, whether it be ourselves or an outside force and we end up falling back 6 steps in one day. How frustrating is that! We made so much progress and it took so long only for it to be ruined in a matter of seconds. I think we all can sometimes get caught up in the fact how much we backtracked and end up not realizing that we’re still one step ahead from where we started. That’s how our paths work. It sucks, it’s frustrating, and it’s not fair but it is worth it because eventually if we keep going we will all make it to where we need to be. President Wilcox said this in different terms, but his message was clear and that was that the only way we could possibly fail this journey is if we stopped trying. We let the mistakes get to us and we stopped trying to move forward. I hope everyone can think about that for a moment. Mistakes and bad circumstances suck but that’s no reason for anyone to get off the path that we’re able to be on through Christ. If we did stop trying we would just be playing right into the hands of the person who caused our misery! Anyway, I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving and recognizes the things in our lives to be grateful for! Adios! Previous Letter Next Letter

  • Elder Tauaimalo Fiso

2cffe2d8-c501-48b1-8af1-e506971f1de5 Elder Tauaimalo Fiso Back to Missionary Letters BisNarck Talofa everyone! Sorry it's been a WHILE. I'm still alive in North Dakota and I'm loving it! I'll give yall a rundown of what's been going on the last few months: I got transferred out of Grand Forks, ND and I am now in Bismarck, ND! I miss Grand Forks and the members a whole lot, definitely one of my favorite areas in my mission so far. Being in Bismarck is a lot of fun and I am literally two minutes from the temple so that's super nice. Our friend Rose in Grand Forks got baptized about a month ago! She was so ready for it and has such great love for the gospel. Two weeks after her baptism, she gave birth to her baby Sebashtien. We went and saw him and that was a lot of fun. My last companion Elder Petersen is supposed to go to Samoa as well so we had a good time learning the language together. We had so much fun together and saw so many miracles in the work. My companions now are Elder Pryor and Ashcraft. We're staying in a tiny apartment with 3 other Elders, so 6 missionaries total. It's crazy but its tons of fun. The other set of Elders are the Content team meaning they make all the content for the Facebook pages in the mission and DANG they are talented. One of the Elders plays the piano so well, we just ask him to play a song and he literally plays it right away. He performed a special musical number in sacrament meeting and it was phenomenal. He played The Spirit of God and arranged it on the spot when he was up on the stage. So much talent. This weekend, Elder Gary E. Stevenson is coming to Bismarck for a Priesthood Leadership training and is also having a devotional with all the missionaries in the mission in person. Its gonna be way sick seeing past companions and missionaries I served around, especially an Apostle of the Lord in person. It's crazy tho because there are missionaries that live about 8-9 hours from the mission home so they got a trek here and back. I've been studying a lot about charity lately. I love the phrase from the scriptures, "Charity never faileth". Its so true! The love of Jesus Christ never fails!! If we pray will all our heart to have that kind of love, God will give it to us. Love conquers over everything! I love you all. Elder Fiso Previous Letter Next Letter

83f1982b-2072-433c-87ed-665a5954565e Elder Scott Sperry Back to Missionary Letters My Last Email Hey, it's been a while.... I know I haven't written an email in a while but here I am! However, this will be my last email seeing that I return home this week on the 15th. I thought I would give you guys an update on what has happened since last time I wrote. Paso De Los Toros: When I last wrote I was with my Chilean comp, Elder Aguirre. I had one transfer with him and then I received a new comp, Elder Lawrence from St. George. The day after transfers we had a baptism of a member's granddaughter. That transfer we also had a mission conference with Elder Joaquin E. Costa. We worked hard and overall had a fun transfer together. We were working on getting an inactive family back to church and this Saturday, one of the daughters got baptized. I only had one transfer with Elder Lawrence and then I got transferred to Camino Carrasco. I was put in a trio with Elder Peterson and Elder Estrada, but I was only with them for a week when I got emergency transferred up to Treinta y Tres, a zone I was in about 16-17 months ago. But to make it even more crazy, I got ETed back to my old area in Treinta y Tres, 33 Central. So I'm back in an old area with members I already know. My new comp is Elder Froncianis from Paraguay. Overall this transfer has been good, we have a few friends on date. Sadly I won't be around for their baptisms. Sadly my mission is coming to a close, but I know that a new chapter is opening up in my life. I´m grateful for these 2 years I have had to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ here in Uruguay. I know this Church is true and that we have a prophet on the Earth. I know Jesus Christ lives. P.S I land in St. George on the 15th at about 12:30 PM and I'll be giving my homecoming talk on the 31st because of the upcoming holidays. Can't wait to see all of you soon! 87040bef-8e63-40ce-8d46-b8dbb1ea1fa9 Sister Veyo Bundy Back to Missionary Letters Road trips and Disney princesses Hello! Wow, this week was super eventful. All good things though. A few fun stories from this week! -we had another hour and a half long Bible bash! We love when people take up all our finding time so we can't talk to people who might actually be interested in talking to us ♡ we decided that we gave this fam a fair shot and they're just not ready yet. One day though. -On Wednesday my compie had an appt in.... LA QUINTA!! Soooo. We got to roadtrip down there and I got to see my home. Love that place. Also our roadtrip was a BLAST. We made PB and J sandwiches and played lots of Jesus music and it was a party and a half -Thursday we had zone conference in Rialto, so I got to see my OTHER old stomping grounds. Lots of good mems. We love the ghetto. ♡ -This weekened we had a giant service project at this big mansion in Redlands. The mansion used to be occupied by nuns, is definitely haunted, and now houses events for little kids. The event was basically like a drive through Disney thing and so there were all these Disney princesses and Jedis and all that fun stuff. Our job was set up and clean up so we didnt get to actually drive through but it was a party working with the zone. -today we had a zone activity at President and Sister McKinnon's house! I love being with the zone. It's my favorite thing ever. That's all. -we found a new person to teach and she is so awesome. She's a referral from a member of another ward and she is so prepared. We love her! Pray for her please, her name is Ramona. On a spiritual note, one thing that's been on my mind this week is the importance of family and of gospel learning in a family unit! I have been so so soo lucky to grow up in a family where we are all members of the church. So many people dont get that. I also re-read the Family Proclamation this morning during my personal study and I had forgotten how good it was. Go read it sometime! The Family Proclamation https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/the-family-a-proclamation-to-the-world/the-family-a-proclamation-to-the-world?lang=eng Kk. That's all. Love you. OH! If you're looking for people to pray for->> Bryce + fam John Kim + Kyle Hajee Marlina Elizabeth Eddie Ramona Amy Dawn Luis Kayla + more if you want em. Also pray that we find families here in Redlands! Love you all!! -Sister Bundy 7000 central ave Highland CA 92346 Previous Letter Next Letter

  • Elder Isaac Iverson

f7bbc5f1-adb9-45f3-ab82-597d1561523f Elder Isaac Iverson Back to Missionary Letters Snowvid, Snowmageddon, Transfer News Well it's been busy, but good. The snow storm in Texas got pretty bad and tons of people went without power, heating, and water. We had a pipe explode in our ceiling and were out of water from Mon-Fri 2 weeks ago. We were in pretty good condition compared to a ton of other people. On the bright side of it all, we got a TON of service opportunities! Transfer News: I'm staying in Scenic Oaks and getting a new companion named Elder Taylor. Super excited about that! The work still moves on. We have a few friends who are right about ready for a baptismal date! Franco is SO close! He is just really trying to get his answer, but he really loves what we teach. Marty got into Family History and has been connecting to ward members that way!. We starting teaching someone who is really ready to receive the Gospel. His name is Luis, and unfortunately I was on exchanges for the first lesson, but my companion Elder Ackerson did great in teaching him the Restoration! We've been super busy and I've been loving my mission! Here is my favorite scripture in the Book of Mormon: Enos 1:27 And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer ; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure , and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen. If we live faithfully like Enos, we will see our Redeemer's face with pleasure. He will welcome us and His love for us will radiate so powerfully! Previous Letter Next Letter

7dfe16d5-c000-4190-8f85-212423d00fef Sister Kaden List Back to Missionary Letters the honeymoon phase What is up my people, welcome to the council! How are you doing? Pls email me and pls tell me EVERYTHING!!! Today is my last Pday in the MTC!!! So let me update you on the last three weeks! Weeks 1-3 super exciting because once you start you. do. not. stop. I love it. I’m lucky if I get a second to stop and think about what the h*ck is even going on. We do a LOT of roleplaying and I can’t help but laugh every time. I am not meant to be an actress :/ My district is so funny and my companion ROCKS!!! She’s a go getter and I show up for classes an hour late. She’s organized and put together and I run around with my head cut off every single day. She plans our days and I just smile and wave boys. We get along GR8 though! She teaches me how to run around with my head on and I teach her how to relax a little bit (and then she regrets it and hates me afterwards #streaksdonthmu) My district?????? SO FUNNY! Like??? How did I get so lucky??? They make the 12-7pm classes a party and we all know how much I like a good party. I love them and I am SO UPSET none of them are coming to Kansas with me. I’ll get over it just give me a second. A normal day looks like this 6am: wake up and do something more than dream of your mansions above > 7am: plan our day > 8 - 10am: workshops, meetings, study, prep (maybe cry if I’m feeling up to it) > 11am: practice lessons and teaching > 12-7pm: classes > 7-10:30pm: cry because I’m so unorganized and stressed and my companion should've raised me better. Totally self inflicted so don’t feel bad for me. BEING A MISSIONARY IS THE BEST THING EVER. I wear this name tag like a GIRL BOSS! There’s something so peaceful and comforting about being a missionary (even though I seem to cry a lot -HAPPY TEARS). But on a real note, this gospel is sooooo true NOTHING makes me happier. Jesus Christ lives and He is so aware of us!! God is good, so so good. I’m so excited to get to Kansas. I’m so excited to meet the people of Kansas. I love you all, email me! **quote of the week “Don’t call me little, I am massive” - Elder Napoleon Previous Letter Next Letter

  • Elder Dodger Smith

c2ae5288-01c0-412e-b555-905fedc59514 Elder Dodger Smith Back to Missionary Letters Post 10 part 1 Not gunna lie this week was wild. Last monday feels like a year ago but also like it just happened. I think I said it last week but we roasted a pig last monday. Then tuesday was a normal day. I did find a croc jibit but i dont know what it says because it is in chinese or something. Then Wednesday was crazy and that is what most of the email will be about but Elder Johnson had to do some baptism interveiws for the sisters and it was exciting to say the least. Thursday was a normal day again. The best part of thursday was our morning keke ride where we got to listen to Buffalo Soldier. It made me happy and reminded me of baseball and my man Kurt Felix. Then friday I had an exchange with Elder Spears. He made me pancakes 🥞 for breakfast with buttermilk syrup. It was pretty good. The rest of the day was fun, he had some baptism interveiws to do to so I got to hang out with elder Phillip all day too. One bad thing is that both times I have went to elder Spears’s apartment I have gotten a sore throat. The last one lasted for like a week and this time it feels way worse. That kinda put a dampener on the weekend. Saturday was a little rough, I didnt sleep very well and my body was sore so that mixed with the sore throar kinda sucked. We did make spagetti with garlic bread and it was very delicous. Sunday was good. We filled up the chapel again because it wasnt raining. Its hard cause when it doesnt rain we need 2 wards but whennit does only like 10 people come so nobody knows what to do. After church we had a baptism for a lady named Ester. Then sunday night dinner was potato leaf with crab. It was way better than the casava and the crab was really good. Then this morning we decided to do something fun so we woke up and went golfing ⛳️ It was awesome but it was definetly africa golfing. They gave us like 4 caddies which kinda sucked because we had to pay them but we didnt lose any balls cause there was a kid chasing after them. The prices were kinda expensive for here in salone but they were still cheaper than the cheepest amarica prices so it wasnt to bad. Post 10 part 2 Now back to wednesday cause it was such a crazy day. We started the day at a normal lesson in the market. Then we took a keke ride to the sisters area. They told us to be there by by 11 and they didnt show up till about 11:30. Then when they came they told us we needed to take a motor bike to get to the first interveiw. Our mission is a little special because normally this would be against the standards but certain places we are allowed to ride motorcycles 🏍. This was not one of the areas we were allowed to ride them. But we got on because they said that it was a 45 minute walk and they werent going to wait for us. About halfway there we were going up a hill and we had to stop for a bike that was coming down the hill. We kinda tipped over but the guy driving stopped us from going all the way down. Then when we started to go again and the driver hit the gas a little to hard. Because we were on a hill the bike did a wheelie and then dumped us off the back and flipped over top of us. Elder Johnson and I were unscathed but the driver got a few cuts cause he held on to the bike while it slid down the hill we were on. We then walked to the top of the hill and got back on the bike. 😅 When we got to the house the sisters had been waiting for like 15 min. But we went inside and it was literally the nicest house ive been in here. Elder Johnson started the interveiw and me and the Sisters went upstairs to visit with the husband. But the husband was watching Sing the movie and so we just ended up watching that. The interveiw was really long so I ended up watching like the whole movie. Then we had a bikeride back and had 4 more interveiws to do. It took the entire day, just over 6 hours. Post 10 part 3 Everyday here comes with a new challenge and a new adventure. Its actually kinda crazy some of the things that we come across as we go throuough our day. Like just finding random things on the ground or things that happen. Funny story from this week actually was that we were proseliting sunday after church and I saw a guy wearing a Be Kind...Kind Like Josh shirt. Idk if any Mesquite people will know what that Is but anyone from Boulder should probably know know. We went and talked to him and he said that he would come to church next week. I even got a picture with him to proove that I found the shirt 😂. Anyways this weeks post is kinda long but I hope that everyone is doing good. -Elder Smith Previous Letter Next Letter

  • Sister Hanna Haviland

dda9cf99-acf3-423e-acc3-15544def923c Sister Hanna Haviland Back to Missionary Letters tapos na...full-time anyways Hello my dear Friends and Family! As most of you know, this last week I finished my time as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I don't really know how to express my feelings about the last 18 months of my life if I am going to be completely honest. There really are not any words to begin to explain what I have seen and what I have come to know. But I can share some of the simple thoughts of my heart. I love our Savior. I love our Father in Heaven. I am grateful for the influence and gift of the Holy Spirit. I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the only Church that has all the necessary ordinances and proper authority that we need in order to fulfill our role in our Father's plan for us. We are led by a living prophet. The Book of Mormon and the Bible are the words of God. Repentance is a gift for everyone made possible through the Infinite sacrifice of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost is sent to lead us home. Our Heavenly Father loves us. Our Savior loves us. The work never stops. no matter how old we are, where we are, or who we are, we are called to be the Hands of the Lord. We have a responsibility and obligation to fulfill that calling. When He calls, we say "yes". I have been beyond blessed for doing my best to live by this phrase. You will too. He will magnify or seemingly futile efforts and lift us to highs we cannot ever reach on our own. stay firm in the faith. Hurrah for Israel! -Sister Haviland Previous Letter Next Letter
